Many people confuse “sustainable engagement” with “less profit”. In today’s 2-minute case study we prove that assumption wrong, and showcase how planting trees drives sales and makes you more money.

I Love Sushi is the world’s first sushi restaurant that plants trees.

The Stuttgart-based team created the TreeRoll: A dedicated sushi roll that plants trees. For every TreeRoll sold I Love Sushi plants one tree with Click A Tree. As simple as that.

A brilliant move. People eat sushi and do good. It tastes great and feels even greater. How much better can sustainability get?

Planting trees did not just get I Love Sushi a ton of media attention (both nationally, e.g. by PRINZ or Kessel.tv, as well as internationally, e.g. by MarketingSherpa), but also drove sales.

I Love Sushi increased sales of the TreeRoll by 22% in the past quarter, reports Green Chefs. And that in spite of Corona!

The success doesn’t stop. In total (as of September 2021) I Love Sushi has already sold 1,876 tree rolls and planted 1,876 trees at the same time.

How business owners can do the same

As you guessed correctly, replicating this success is simple. If you’re a bar or a restaurant, create a “climate cocktail”, “tree dish” or “pizza for the planet”, and you’re good to go. We recommend making it a vegetarian or even vegan dish, since many climate-conscious customers prefer to not eat meat.

In case you’re selling any other type of product or service, shoot us an email and we’ll discuss with you how to best green both the planet and your wallet. In our opinion, sustainability only works if it’s beneficial for everyone involved.

That’s also why we make planting trees as simple as clicking your mouse or writing an email.

When partnering with Click A Tree, you simply email us at the end of each quarter how many trees you’d like us to plant.

We then take care of all the heavy lifting, and even create tailor-made marketing material for you in the process. That helps to promote your green engagement and will bring in even more customers, driving even more sales – and hence planting even more trees.

How good is that?

I love the idea to buy a super tasty sushi role (and it really does sound tasty) and doing something for the environment at the same time.

Hopefully, a lot of companies will understand that people WANT efforts like this to be taken.
I wish I would live closer to Stuttgart, so I could actually try the TreeRoll.
Good luck with your project in the future!

    • Chris

Hi Daniel, thanks a lot for your comment and kind words. We’re delighted to read that you like the idea.

May I ask which city you live close to? Maybe we do have a partner restaurant nearby already as well? (If not, we’ll fine one. 🙂 )

On https://clickatree.com/de/food-for-future/ we always post updates about new partners that are joining Food for Future. Feel free to check back regularly, or sign up for our newsletter to be kept in the loop. (https://clickatree.com/de/gratis-baeume/)

Either way, we’d absolutely love if you could share the post with a friend or two living near Stuttgart. The more sushi they eat, the more other restaurants will join – and the sooner we can plant trees with a restaurant near you as well. 🙂

  2. Rakesh Ameta

Hi Chris, I loved the idea of Charitalism, We are a t-shirt brand named Pamilano based in India & planting trees is our WHY. It would be great to work with you to contribute towards Capitalism. Do you have any projects or presence in India to which we can contribute? I know it is a global phenomenon however customers generally prefer to do charity in their local before they go beyond.

further, can we share your project Geolocation ID with our customers to experience their impact and to gain the trust which is above all to really explode such a noble idea?

    • Rakesh Ameta

Sorry it was a typo, I mean ” towards Charitalism” not ” towards Capitalism”

    • Margarita Price

      Hey Rakesh,

thank you for your comment! I think it’s great that you started a t-shirt brand with such an awesome WHY as a foundation! We are currently not planting trees in India but are always open to hear our reader’s input. While the pandemic is still going on we are focusing on our projects in Ghana, Thailand and the Philippines, but hope to be able to expand to more countries soon. And yes, if you decide to work with us your are more than welcome to share details about our projects with your customers. We also send our partners pictures and videomaterial from the planting locations. Please feel free to send us an email to info@clickatree.com to discuss a partnership. We’ll happily answer your questions! Best, Margarita
