Climate protection played through once: What is the Board Game Road?
The “Board Game Road” is an ambitious project in which game publishers, game designers and game authors have joined forces to create 20 hectares of forest in the Ghanaian savannah.
Over the next few years, 2,000 trees will be planted along a dirt road for each participating publisher or game designer.
Reforestation and climate protection - the Board Game Road is being created
In October 2022, Chris Kaiser, the CEO of Click A Tree, and Uwe Rosenberg, the brilliant game designer and inventor of the popular game“Bohnanza“, met.
They realized that they had the same interests, such as climate protection and the protection of the environment and biodiversity.
So they joined forces and combined their sustainable commitment to help the planet together.
Uwe has always strived to do good.
As a passionate game developer, he brings people joy, promotes strategic thinking and imparts knowledge.
But that’s not all: as he spent a lot of time studying Ghana and the living conditions there during the development of his latest game“Atiwa“, he decided to take action and improve those living conditions.
And since Uwe is a real doer, he didn’t hesitate for long: he contacted Click A Tree and the idea of the Board Game Road led to the creation of a real road in Ghana.
Together with Click A Tree founder Chris, he forged a plan and used his many contacts in the games industry to win over games publishers and people from the games industry and make the vision a reality.
A forest is to be created along the Board Game Road – the forest on the board game road!
Reforestation project in Ghana - the Board Game Road
The trees on the Board Game Road grow in our reforestation project in Ghana.
Each participating publisher plants one hectare of forest.
The starting signal was given in 2023, tThe goal: Plant 40,000 trees in 10 years.
Founding father Uwe Rosenberg is also transforming a hectare of wasteland into a green jungle.
Together, the trees form intact ecosystems that largely manage without human help.
This makes climate protection sustainable.
Reforestation and social commitment in harmony: working together for a sustainable future
Click A Tree is characterized by its holistic approach.
The local people are paid fairly over decades to grow, plant and care for the trees.
In addition, business schools are financed that give locals in Ghana the opportunity to further their education.
This creates prospects for the future.
The “Board Game Road” is therefore not just a pure reforestation project.
In fact, it supports all 17 sustainability goals of the United Nations. That is holistic sustainability.
Climate protection and development cooperation: this is what the Board Game Road achieves
What exactly is the point of planting 40,000 trees?
Very good question.
With a very long answer.
But to summarize briefly, here are the most important key figures:
- 10,000 hours of work will be created.
That is 250 weeks of full-time employment. This is particularly valuable for people in less privileged regions of our planet.
- 160,000 square meters will be reforested.
That’s over 20 soccer fields! - 8,000 training days are supported.
That means training for around 40 people!
As you can see, planting trees is about much more than “just” a CO?
figure.
But you probably already knew why trees are so vital for us, right?
(If not – we list 11 very good reasons in the article).
